Why is having a difficult conversation so hard? | | Posted by Stephen Light on 2011-12-01 17:25:13 | | | | In all the companies I work with there is always a common theme - people avoiding or making a mess of difficult conversations. People lack the skills to be candid about an issue, have a difficult conversation when it is required and not take things personally. There are 2 areas that need focus to get this right. The first is the FEAR we feel around having this conversation and the second is the skill to actually voice what needs to be voiced without offending others. I believe all leaders need to have these skills and should share them with their teams. What has been your experience of having difficult conversations? I would love to hear from YOU. |

| Stephen, I really enjoyed your most recent news letter. It's very timely. We tend to see fear as a red flag that paralyzes us and prevents us from moving forward. Another perspective on fear is that it is actually our friend. When we are uncomfortable it generally means that we are in uncharted territory and have an opportunity to grow. So the next time you are feeling uncomfortable I encourage you to ask your "Where is the opportunity here? What would it be like to greet fear as my friend and use transform its power into support for positive change? Warmly, Ron Capocelli | | Posted by Ron Capoceli on 2011-12-22 18:49:58 |
